Which earrings are best for sensitive ears? What is the difference between stud earrings, dangle drop and hoop earrings? What are huggie hoop earrings?

These are some of my most frequently asked questions. It can be confusing when you are offered so many different options, especially if you aren’t sure of your preference or if you have any paticular requirements. I’m hoping this little guide will help shed some light on the various different finishings I offer and help you work out which option is best for you!

Available Finishings

I offer a large range of finishings in different metal colours and materials including:

Dangle hooks - silver plated, gold stainless steel and sterling silver.
Stainless steel stud posts and butterfly backs
Sterling silver stud posts and butterfly backs
Studs - gold and silver stainless steel, medium and large
Hoops - silver plated small 2cm and large 3.5cm, gold stainless steel small and large, sterling silver medium 2.5cm
Huggie Hoops - stainless steel 1cm and sterling silver 1cm
Mini ball studs - sterling silver and gold plated stainless steel

Dangle Hooks

Dangle hooks are the curved ear wires shown in the picture above. I offer them in three different metal types - silver plated, gold stainless steel and sterling silver. Silver plated is the standard and just as they’re named, they’re made from silver plated metal. These are perfect if you don’t have sensitive ears as they may contain traces of nickel which can cause irritation in some people. If this is the case for you then I also offer an upgrade to 925 Sterling Silver dangle hooks which are ideal for sensitive ears. Alternatively if you prefer gold over silver then you can choose the gold stainless steel hooks. These are made from hypoallergenic stainless steel plated in gold. As they’re hypoallergenic it means these are also suitable for sensitive ears.

Studs

Stud earrings have the posts that go through your ear and are secured with backs, as shown in the above photo. All of the studs I make/ offer are made from hypoallergenic stainless steel which means they’re ideal for sensitive ears. Some earrings I design have stud posts attached to the back of the resin/ polymer clay pieces I’ve created whereas others are entirely metal in either gold or silver (like the ones above). These are available in small or large sizes depending on the size of the main earring shape.

Hoops

I offer silver or gold hoop earrings in either small or large. Silver hoops are made from silver plated metal and gold hoops are made from gold plated stainless steel. The gold hoops are hypoallergenic and ideal for sensitive ears. I don’t currently offer sterling silver hoops however I have had good feedback that these silver plated hoops haven’t irritated any sensitive ears!

HUGGIE HOOPS

Huggie hoop earrings are a mini version of the classic hoop earrings. They are much smaller in size and 'hug' the bottom of your earlobes, which is how they got their name. Huggies can be worn on their own as a simple metal earring or with a charm attached to the bottom. Click here to read more!

I offer huggie hoops in silver and gold plated stainless steel as well as the option to upgrade to sterling silver.

Clip Ons

For those of you who don’t have your ears pierced, I also offer clip ons. These are made from stainless steel so also shouldn’t irritate sensitive skin. Due to the nature of clip ons I am only able to offer them with some earring designs such as attached to resin/ polymer clay studs or instead of dangle hooks. I don’t yet offer clip on hoops but this is something I may look into in the future!
